OCCS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible. Contributions are used to supplement income from tuition to continue to offer financial aid through the acceptance of DSS childcare vouchers and through the use of a sliding scale. Please contact us for a receipt any time you choose to support our programs with your contribution.
OCCS provides the Greensboro area community with a unique independent school focused on social-emotional competence, critical thinking, and authentic learning through child led play and exploration in the early childhood and elementary years. Our learning community is built on a foundation of mutual respect, intentional inclusion of every child and every family, and the belief that all children can and will have friends, learn, and be successful.
Guiding Principles of our Inclusive Community:
- Constructivism - knowledge is constructed between children, between children and adults, and between adults through collaboration and idea-sharing.
- Eclectic Curricular Approaches - to capitalize on each child's unique learning styles and learning goals, teachers draw from a wide variety of curricula.
- Modeling and promoting best practices - for pre-service and in-service teachers and professionals in the fields of early childhood education, elementary education, special education, and related fields.
- Embracing diversity - for our community, diversity includes but is not limited to racial, cultural, linguistic, gender, age, identity, economic, need/ability/disability, religious, and/or diversity of family structure. All children and their families are welcomed and valued.
